Kamen Rider Zero-One
Episode 03 – He Was a Sushi Chef Episode 04 – The Bus Guide Saw! Anna’s Truth
After some audio difficulties, an intercontinental journey, and an overwhelming sense of antipathy, Aleph and Sono have returned a few episodes past where we were before, skipping over the last few episodes of Zi-O to move from one form of hereditary power to a similar (but slightly different) one as the UnKamenCast R!X!returns to begin our coverage of Kamen Rider Zero-One!
In this episode, your humble hosts check out the first two episodes of the first Rider of the Reiwa era! Sono is glad to see dreams defended, Aleph appreciates the series’ approach to AI labor, and multiple HumaGears are subjected to horrors which make your hosts all kinds of uncomfortable.

Kamen Rider Zero-One
Episode 01 – I’m the President and a Kamen Rider Episode 02 – Is the AI guy friend or foe?
A new year, a new Kamen Rider. This year we see the return of Takahashi Yuya in out lead writing position and… Look, I watched this episode when I was in Japan, and about mid-way through the episode, I said out loud to myself, “Is this by the Ex-Aid guy?” And it sure is. This is no shade on Yuya. These aren’t the same show by any means, but his sense of humor comes through very clearly and I enjoyed Ex-Aid more than enough to be willing to welcome him back to usher in the Reiwa Era.
We also have Sugihara Teruaki in his first go-around as lead director. He directed small chunks of Zyuoger and Kyuranger, as well as a little over a quarter of Lupinranger vs. Patranger, and it’s movie. So he’s been working his way up in Sentai the past few years and made the jump to being a lead over here on Rider. I think his directing style meshes really well with Yuya’s writing so I’m really eager to see what they do together!
This season, we’re also welcoming a new suit actor for our main rider as Takaiwa Seiji’s hanging up the helmet (and, after 20 years of moving in that hot-and-heavy armor, who can blame him?) in the form of Yuya Nawata, most notable as being Kamen Rider GenM (particularly of note ‘cuz he was the Dangerous Zombie suit) and Kamen Rider Geiz in Zi-O. If you, like me, have enjoyed getting familiar with Seiji’s particular tics as a suit actor, you’ll find a wealth of real differences from his style in Nawata’s performance here.
Content Advisory: Given some of the themes these episodes of Zi-O touch on, the discussion gets a little heavy with regard to discussions of self-harm, blame, depression, and death. As ever, we strive not to be leering or explicit about it, but it bears mentioning beforehand.
Byun byun, motherfrickers!
All the numbers on the digital clockface are the same, so open the door to absurdity with the return of the Den-Liner, the train which travels through time! Is its next stop the past or the future? Neither! It’s the eternal present of the podcast format here on the UnKamenCast R!X! In this episode, Momotaros continues to be the best (and the worst), Aleph feels some Yasuko Kobayashi energy, and Sono appreciates the skill with which this episode mirrors the core of Den-O, even if it never relates it back to the original.

Kamen Rider Zi-O
Episode 37 –Next Level Kabuto Episode 38 –The One Chosen By Kabuto
In this contentious episode of the UnKamenCast R!X!, we’re looking at Zi-O’s tribute to Kamen Rider Kiva and… things go a bit awry. Sougo falls in love with a hardcore murder-lady, Aleph acknowledges holes and limitations in his critical faculties, and Sono is both mad and disappointed.
