Here at the TOH Network, we like to acknowledge the people who work on all the shows we discuss and offer thanks for their effort as we critique the finished product.
Sono: Wikipedia sure still isn’t offering me answers to this… Miss Dream does have a list of Cast/Crew overall LINK, though I’m not sure if it’s just for Seasons 1 and 2, or if it’s the same staff on Season 3. Either way, I still can’t find this info per episode.
I also want to note that I was contacted by my cousin and Crunchyroll apparently did translate the opening and ending themes for their subs. I’m still not sure why Hulu isn’t, as they were still just romanized lyrics for episode 2.
Monster of the Week
Magus Kalonite and The Witches 5 sounds like a great band name. They were also introduced as a group this episode, so they should be here too.
Was there anything that rubbed you the wrong way?
- Legendary Silver Crystal, Malefic Dark Crystal, Taioron Crystal. The repetition is always going to bother me a bit. Yes, even as I watch Kamen Rider and Super Sentai which are full of similar repetitions.
- Chibi-Usagi’s hat sure flew a LONG distance off of that ride and high up onto the Mugen Academy building. Or at least, the blocking made it hard to tell just where it had gone
Seconding Ammit on awkward blocking. I mean, I know we establish that the park is right next to the school, but the background art framed it oddly and it seems like it traveled way farther than it should have. Also why was she allowed to WEAR the hat on the roller coaster? I know it’s nit-picky as heck, but that’s generally not a thing the operators will let you do. Especially a hat like that.
- How loud is Michiru’s violin that they’re hearing it from different parts of this very large area? I mean I know Michiru is magic and all and I’m still being super nit-picky… But still. Usagi hearing it, I can buy. Everyone else, not as much.
What were some lovely things you found especially catching?
A: Mamoru’s communicator watch!
S: I’m seconding the communicator watch because it was adorable and also hilarious.
A: Umino Jr.
A: Sailor Moon and Chibi-Moon’s comedic dodging
S:Again seconding. There was just so much warmth between the two of them in this episode, even if they spent it all bickering. Ikkuko pulling them apart and ChibiUsa still posed as if she was fighting was geart.
A: Haruka has a Mask AND Cape!
S: This was actually not a good thing for me. I did go back and check, and it WAS a thing she had in the manga, and the shots were framed the same way, but it feel so WEIRD to me that the show is going out of it’s way to hide Haruka’s skirt in those shots. She’s in the opening. And the ending. We know she’s a woman. This isn’t a secret anymore.
A: Cat Monster was cool!
- Mamoru being afraid of roller coasters was amusing.
- Also Mamoru’s dad instincts kicking in as he chases his kid halfway across the city. When he showed up after the fight I half expected him to scold ChibiUsa for running off!
- ChibiUsa’s transformation sequence was adorable. I love what they did with it and the sound effects they used. Super cute!
What were some of the best or worst lines that stood out to you?
“We’re all Sailor Guardians protected by the planets.”
-ChibiUsa, to the mysterious sick girl. I just really love when someone with a secret identity lets a civilian in on the secret to make them less scared. Especially from ChibiUsa, who seems so proud of what she is and following in Usagi’s footsteps.
“Well… Basically, I don’t do things like that.”
-Mamoru’s trying as hard as he can not to tell Asanuma that he can’t handle roller coasters.
These are questions sparked by the episode. Sono and Ammit discuss them in the show and want to hear your thoughts too. Please comment on this post to answer or use Twitter, Tumblr or send your replies to the inbox.
How do you enjoy the design of the Witches 5?
Did the convergence of Small lady, Mamoru and the Sailor Guardians as the climax approached work well for you?
What the does “Atavism” mean? Usagi says it when that cat-fueled Daimon appears.
That sickly Mugen student sure has some issues. I wonder if she is somehow the flaw Kalonite referred to?
Neptune and Uranus were just barely involved in the events of this episode, is that an issue for you?
