Focus

What are your thoughts on this episode and what if any messages came into focus for you?

Ammit

This episode was absolutely incredible. The action, the drama, the progression in quite a few stories- all of it was good and beautiful. Alia got me all misty in a miniscule scene. I cried for Alain. I cried for Javert. I was scared for Takeru, worried by Sage and the Daitenkuu crew filled me with pride and joy.

There was a message somewhere in here about slumps and sadness and choosing your path and I think it all boils down to this: if you don’t make your own decisions and follow your heart, you can never be truly happy. That doesn’t mean independence will result in happiness, but working for the man, working towards the Utopia you have blindly believed in and working just to stay survive will almost certainly not bring you on the road to wholeness and contentment.

Sono

This episode was so great. It takes a little bit to get it’s feet under it, but once it’s going, it’s just about everything I’ve ever hoped for. And so much of the non-rider cast really got to shine this episode. I’m so proud of them, and so proud of Ghost’s creative staff for giving them this time to shine in a way that we really haven’t seen since Fourze and the KRC, and maybe occasionally in Wizard.

Overall, I’m with Ammit, because that’s a message that resonates with me and where I am in my life. You’ve got to go with your heart, take risks to do what’s best for you even if it seems like the less safe option, and make your own path. There will be slumps and doubts and rough patches, and it will take a LOT of hard work, but when you break through it will feel great and you’ll be a lot better off for it.

Woments

The unKamenCrew’s Top 3 moments that made them say “Woah” from this bit of Ghost

Ammit

  • Alia’s reaction to learning that Adel killed Adonis and entrusting Alain to Takeru
  • Seeing Akari and friends defending Cubi and Composer Ganma was amazing. They are all such precious souls!
  • And Javert came in too. I knew he would JUST before it happened, but I still couldn’t handle it.

Sono

  • Holy s#!t can Alain play dead on his feet. This kid can express emotions so powerfully god damn. What killed me was his little smile when he calls Makoto by his name. He was so happy. It was so perfect.
  • The unfolding saga of Onari and Javert. It was short but it was there and I’m so excited for where this is going because it’s GOING to go somewhere. I’m a sucker for certain action-adventure tropes and the villain redemption flag of “You helped me so I protected you. Now we’re even.” is pretty far up there. Onari just looked so proud as Javert walked away.
  • On that note, I’m so dang proud of Onari for stepping up to fight. Akari too, but I mean she has a weapon she knows works. Onari has his staff and his confidence and not much else and he stepped into defend his whole pack. This ray of sunshine is too good for all of us.

Sarracenian

  • Igor revealing himself as the Silicon Valley dark enlightenment dudebro that he is and gets promptly slapped for it is a good.
  • Akari slapping the accelerationist dark enlightenment dudebro is the best thing ever.

Questions

On Eyecons

  1. What do you think of Deep Specter suit and powers?
  2. Did you buy that Makoto was really “diving too deep” to access that power and what do you think that means?

Forcing Perspective

  1. The Golden Mandala protected Takeru from the Ganmeiser early on in the episode. When the Ganmeiser returned, the 15 Heroic Eyecons acted of their own will and formed Grateful. What could that mean, especially when Takeru is hurt by the 15 Monoliths the second time?
  2. Does Cubi and Composer’s departure a cop out to stop putting them in the show or does it feel like a good use of their characters?

Animal Instincts – Overall Thoughts about the episode & it’s message

Sono

Overall, pretty solid episode. Punched home the emotions in all of the right places, had a sweet slow-motion group walk, introduced a new element and a new robot, and wrapped up this “Gift” thing. Everyone felt top of their game.

I’m not sure about an overall message but I think it maybe kind of a more cut and dry, pure version of Ghost’s recent “Go with your gut” message. Hard decisions will come and in your heart you’re going to know what the right one is and you need to follow that instinct.

Ammit

This episode was good. It felt like a turning point in the show overall and I like how it was structured. The search for the 6th Champion’s Symbol ends, the Zyumen chose to stick with Yamato and they access Wild Zyuoh King enabling them to beat the greatest Dethgalien challenge to date. All the while, we get this bird-man thrown in the mix to challenge assumptions and create conflict and it makes Zyuland feel a lot more dynamic and real to me.

Aleph

And that really is kind of the hook for me right there, and one that makes me so happy this series is airing alongside Kamen Rider Ghost: in the middle of all this yearning for home, we have someone coming in and saying that maaaaaaaybe home isn’t so all-fired great.  Sure, it’s Kaixa sayin’ it, but this idea that you have to ask questions about things you love is great for reasons that I’m sure none of us present can relate to.  Then marrying that to a thing about how it’s noble to sacrifice for people, but you gotta let people make their own choices?  Baller as heck.  Zyuohger still doesn’t feel like it’s gonna be one of the greats, but it’s at least showing that it’s gonna be a scrapper, which is all I ask.

Hackles Up! – Problems & Nitpicks

Sono
  • Well, my worries about Naria still stand. She did get to actually have a thought and emotion for herself this episode (Being interested in Yamato being willing to fight GIFT on his own), but everything else was par for the course.
  • Aside from that and having to look at ZyuohGorilla, I’ve really got nothing. This episode felt like a very solid plot episode.
Ammit
  • I missed the boat on the Champion’s Symbol having been stolen. I know it went missing, but I thought that was more because of the Gate Cube being blown up. How did Yamato pass through then? His was the 6th and then a different one went missing in the explosion? Tusk’s mention of the thief really threw me.
  • Why does Bird-Man have the Chain sword? That doesn’t make sense.
  • G.I.F.T. was too soft on them after it had charged up.
  • What was with the dirt flying behind Wild Zyuoh King?
Aleph

Yeah, this idea that they all know that the Eagle Zyulander is a thief is… I don’t know. It’s weird and I wish they’d’ve explained it a bit more.

Tide Turners – Stuff you enjoyed.

Sono
  • Nice to see them breaking out Ankh’s old feathers.
  • Sela and Amu sleeping on the swing together was cuter than I was prepared for.
  • The heartfelt conversation with Mario was so nice. Toei’s really making good use of their side characters lately. Mario really felt like a parent-figure.
  • The transition between the instrumental and lyrical versions of the OP was so strong. The moment hit and it hit hard and I loved it.
  • “From now on we’re not here because we’re stuck. We’re here because we chose to be.” Aaaaand there goes every single emotion I have. I’m an absolute sucker for that kind of stuff.
Ammit
  • G.I.F.T. needing to charge and Genis being a sadist made a good excuse for it NOT killing them in the beginning moments of this episode
  • Uncle Mario is so sweet with his care and concern for Yamato and the others
  • Mario’s animal PJ’s are adorable
  • Yamato’s shirts are too good.
  • Naria’s reactions to Yamato taking on G.I.F.T. alone were really good.
  • The miniature work on Yamato attacking G.I.F.T. was cool
Aleph
  • Really dug on the detail that flying Kusaka uses his chain-sword more frequently as a whip than as a sword, to give a nice contrast with Yamato, who’s clearly more sword-first.
  • Mario finally starts to feel like he’s there for a reason and I am SO here for it.
  • GIFT is just a lovely design.  I wasn’t around last week to say it, but I love the heck outta that robot.
  • And like Sono said: That bit at the end where they’re on Earth because it’s a choice?  That feels GOOOOOD.

Evolutions – What do you think this show has in store for the future?

Sono

Next episode looks like a breather/character development episode. Tusk is going to be adorable. Maybe also Amu.

Ammit

I want to know why bird-man left Zyuland. I want to learn that he was exiled by some wicked powers-that-be there, or that he sought to walk his own path and live in self-imposed exile to free himself from some essential flaw in the Zyulander culture.

Aleph

I’m pretty much down for more stuff about why they kicked Kaixa outta Zyuland, even though I’m pretty sure we all know why.

Quick Reflexes – Questions in reaction to this bit of Zyuohger.

  1. So now that we’ve seen a bit more of Bird-Man, what do you think of him?
  2. How about that robot upgrade?

Rough Demandes

Was there anything that rubbed you the wrong way?

Ammit

  • Chibi-Usagi should have been taught not to keep secrets! Have the Tsukinos not told her about how bad secrets are!?!?! Secrets are dangerous and can be harmful. Body Safety rules, etc.
  • Hotaru knows her dad is making the Daimon and just calls him eccentric! This was unintentionally funny.
  • The fights are all too short. I like how amazingly powerful that makes the Senshi look – and they are- but I’d like to see more action.

Sono

  • Haruka was phrasing things in a super creepy way in the helicopter conversation. “Oh yeah we know Usagi really well but she doesn’t really know us.” Something about all of it just creeped me out a little.

Frills

What were some lovely things you found especially catching?

Ammit

  • The shared dream is great. I really like that everyone is acknowledging it now. All the Silver Millennium attached people are anyway.
  • Small Lady shared the power of the Legendary Silver Crystal with Hotaru.
  • The tenderness from Haruka towards Usagi was interesting and unexpected and felt really sincere.
  • I love all the evening wear! I especially like how Mamoru left his cape hat and mask home, but is in his tuxedo.
  • Minako pulling an Usagi with her Sailor V compact and the accompanying music was fantastic.

Sono

  • Everyone’s formal-wear was great but I especially loved Chibiusa’s cute little dress. It suits her so well and I almost feel like it comes out of an outfit from an artbook or something. It’s just a really cute look for her.
  • Chibiusa healing Hotaru was so sweet and really shows how much Chibiusa has grown that she’s able to use the power of the Silver Crystal to help others.
  • Minako was a treasure this episode with her love of pop culture and idols, and sneaking off to see Mimi’s show for fun, even if it happened to be what saved the day

 Quotable Quotes

What were some of the best or worst lines that stood out to you?

Sono

“I got tickets from Michiru. I was going to come with you, Usa. But you said you had tickets.”

-Mamoru to Usagi outside the concert when he and Chibiusa run into Usagi and the girls outside of the violin concert. This just felt very sweet to me.

Ammit

“Your friends told me stay away from you. I didn’t plan to come here. But I missed you.”

-Haruka to Usagi outside of Crown Games.

Inquisition

These are questions sparked by the episode. Sono and Ammit discuss them in the show and want to hear your thoughts too. Please comment on this post to answer or use Twitter, Tumblr or send your replies to the inbox.

  1. In the helicopter, Michiru told Small Lady that her mirror is a Talisman, but she also said in the last episode that they still have to find the Talismans, not the Talisman singular. What is missing here?
  2. Mamoru and Usagi are not talking about some issues they are having. What does that say to you?
  3. Do you think Haruka feels something for Usagi? Do you think she is taken by surprise by that?
  4. Usagi, Mamoru and Chibi-Usa spend so much time apart and acting independently to bring together the disparate elements of the overall plot. Is that just in the interest of utility or is Takeuchi pulling the Tsukinos apart just for the tension?
  5. How did you like the fighting debut of Neptune and Uranus?

Focus

What are your thoughts on this episode and what if any messages came into focus for you?

Ammit

Adonis’ message to Alain is really sticking with me. He told Alain to listen to his heart over his ideals. Adel affirms that his heart allows him justify all his actions. Alain is shaken by his doubt and prompted to ask Adonis a spate of questions because of his heart. Takeru goes wild on a dozen or more Ganma and demolishes them as his heart is grieving over Adonis’ impending death.

I love the sound of Adonis’ message, but I have trouble blindly trusting the heart because of Adel and others like him. I see it like this: the heart is fickle and tricky and needs to maintain a certain level of purity to be trusted to always make the right choice. Perhaps it should be trusted and then checked and put in balance by our other facilities and even more, we should probably check our hearts against others’ to be careful that we are doing the most loving and kind thing when we are faced with a dilemma.

Sono

I agree with a lot of Ammit’s take on this, but a very important part of what Adonis said to Alain is not to let your ideals cloud over what your heart is telling you, which I think is what he feels happened to Adele. Adonis put these ideals in front of him, and drilled them into his children to a point where Adele can’t tell the difference between these ideals that came from an outside source, and what his heart is telling him. And I think he’s trying to make the fat that that’s what happened clear to Alain. He doesn’t need to have this talk with Aria, because she already seems to understand it and likely never had this issue, given that she is depicted as much more empathetic to others. What Adois is saying is valid, and good, and I think that you should always check what your heart is telling you, your gut instincts, against ideals and morals and the feelings of others, but sometimes you know what’s right with certainty in spite of all that and you need to do what you feel.

Sarracenian’s Focus

<Not In Notes>

Woments

The unKamenCrew’s Top 3 moments that made them say “Woah” from this bit of Ghost

Ammit

  • Igor immediately suspects Akari spoiled his red sky plot
  • Akari and Onari perceive the world SO fundamentally differently
  • Takeru is adorable asking about his dad

Sono

  • God DANG can Alain’s actor emote. And he can do it in this amazingly realistic way. This kid can display fear, and grief, and pain, and make it really believable without it being the kind of over the top emotional breakdown that you see a lot when a character hits this point in their arc. Alain just lost his FATHER, everything he knew has completely crumbled out from under him. But he’s not screaming or thrashing. The way this kid can make himself tremble and the control he has over his voice is amazing and I have so much admiration for his ability.
  • The scene between Onari and Javert might be my favorite scene so far in this show. It’s so simple and pure and really gives us this piece of Onari we’ve been missing. Onari was kind of rubbing me wrong this episode, with his weird slapstick and fourth wall breaking, but I feel like setting those bits of him up so forwardly was very deliberate in leading up to the scene with Javert. If Onari was ALWAYS acting like he did with Javert that scene would have lost a lot of impact. And the whole thing was just really beautiful. Onari knows what he’s doing is dangerous and might hurt him, and everyone, in the long run, but this is what he knows is right. This is what’s in his heart, and he follows it.
  • Takeru’s reactions to Alain and Adonis were so touching. Takeru can’t get his father back. He can’t have this reunion. So he’s so happy to see Alain get to see his father. And he’s furious on Alain’s behalf when that’s taken away. There’s ZERO time between Adonis getting hit and Takeru just LOSING it. This affords Alain the time to grieve he wouldn’t be able to take if he had to fight, and I think that’s a very big part of Takeru’s reaction. He wants to give Alain everything that he never got to have with his father.

Sarracenian

  • The fight scenes are great this episode, lot more emphasis on hand-to-hand than the previous. Tho the second major fight with Takeru and the other Ganma is a little odd how it’s almost like an intermission between Adonis’ death scene. Usually it’d be like, edited together?
  • Like Sono said, the scene with Onari is great, and it also reminds that despite all the silliness and large personality he is a dedicated Buddhist and demonstrates the compassion and mercy of it. Also ties neatly to the character of Takeru a bit, reminding you that oh yeah, these people are raised in a Buddhist temple.
  • I like how now Igor is also acknowledging Akari as a rival now. It’s good. Scientist vs. Scientist

Animal Instincts – Overall Thoughts about the episode & it’s message

Sono

This episode does a lot to set up a larger conflict, and I think the real pay-off is going to be in episode 11, but there’s Zyuohger’s usual notes of “When the going gets tough” and all that, as well as that sometimes under pressure even strong people break down and need time to think and breathe and it doesn’t make you weak or stupid to need that.

Ammit

I think the overall message in this episode is Gamers are trash. Ok. I take that back. People who are obsessed only with stimulating and pleasing themselves like the Blood Gamer, Genis are trash. It’s a dead simple message, but with all the horror and terror displayed this episode, I feel compelled to state the obvious and advise everyone to be better than that huge glowy-mouth jerk genis. Have some compassion!

Hackles Up! – Problems & Nitpicks

Sono
  • Oh man Naria… Please be playing the long con, Naria, because god this episode was not good to you. “Oh it’s fine if I stand here and die. I just do what Master Genis wants.” Please, Zyuohger. You’re so much better than this.
  • Leo, don’t touch Sela. She’s clearly not happy. You should know her well enough to know better. Just… Don’t do it.
  • I’m kind of ticked about them “killing” that cat. It was mild visually, thank god, but just…I mean I know that they are also killing people left and right, but… I don’t know. Maybe that it was more focused on than just “bunch of mooks attacking bunch of people” or “building explosion and people probably died in that but we don’t see them”, as opposed to “Watch this one singular cat dissolve for 3 seconds.” It’s really hard to put into words, but it got my back up.
  • I’m not sure this totally counts, but I had human-form bird-dad Kusaka spoiled for me and it really took the fun out of the whole thing. The preview doesn’t have me very excited for him either.
Ammit
  • Genis killed a CAT
  • Naria is seemingly a willing tool of Genis
  • I wish that Amu’s insight to Yamato alone would have been used to show how much like searching for the Champion Symbol is to searching for Genis’ shut down switch. The flashback was too much. This show seems better than that.
  • Kubard and Azald talking up G.I.F.T. seemed a bit much. It really destroyed 10 planets in one day?
  • Amu hid behind Yamato when Naria showed up. Why?

Tide Turners – Stuff you enjoyed.

Sono
  • The scene where Sela, Tusk, and Leo get frustrated with their inability to find the switch, and the Champion Symbol, and Amu’s handling of it, was something I really liked. It really dawned on me through this that Amu very much avoids conflict when possible. She’ll fight the bad guys but she doesn’t like to see the others argue or get frustrated, and I think that may be part of why she tends to abandon their searches in favor of things she enjoys. And I’m glad she knew that this wasn’t the time or place to just ditch things and instead just tried to break up the conflict and help Yamato understand what was happening.
  • I loved Yamato and Sela kind of using their special abilities together to accomplish the goal. They’re finally building that into the teamwork and I’d love to see more of it.
  • Genis showing some emotion was nice. We’ve had some bloodshed before that he hasn’t reacted to, but this was on another level and it was kind of scary how into it he was.
Ammit
  • The show didn’t forget about the bit of actual development from last episode.
  • Amu still knows what’s up and is more emotionally in tune than the rest.
  • The mook fight was SO dynamically blocked. It was beautiful.
  • Naria is doing a thing!
  • I am consistently impressed with how terrifying the actions of the Deathgalien are even if they themselves are bland.
  • GIFT went giant on its own.

Evolutions – What do you think this show has in store for the future?

Sono

Bird Dad Kusaka is going to be stronger than everyone and be a grump about kids these days and no wonder you dang kids can’t beat the robot you’re all soft.

Ammit

Angry Birdman is going to be an aloof mentor figure… wait, is that what you just said, Sono?

Quick Reflexes – Questions in reaction to this bit of Zyuohger.

Moon Spiral Heart Attack strikes again. I’d like to see other attacks from Sailor Moon.

My one big issue with this really solid episode:

The kiss at the end. It was stolen/forced. It wasn’t quite as bad as Mamoru trying to kiss sleeping Usagi in Masquerade Dance Party, but still, it rubbed me the wrong way. This feels extra creepy to me because it feels like using sex…uality as a weapon. Not homo- or hetero- sexuality just an aspect of sex which is supposed to be mutual, pleasurable and consensual as something to throw off and harm Usagi.

Sono

On Amit’s complaint about Usagi in the dark: Agreed on this. It seems to go against the nature of the group. I know that Rei especially is protective of Usagi, and to a degree I can buy wanting to keep Usagi specifically from a preventable dangerous situation, but to keep the OTHER girls out of it seems to fly in the face of who the Senshi are and have always been to Usagi. They work together, using different strengths to protect the Princess.

Regarding the kiss: To a degree, I think that’s kind of Haruka’s plan. Throw Usagi into disarray by any means necessary to just keep her, and the others by extension, out of her and Michiru’s way while they do what they need to. It’s a display of power. Haruka is strong so she can do what she wants. And especially knowing Usagi’s devotion to Mamoru, she takes it as an effective weapon.

I’m not defending the action by any means, because woahhhh no no no it’s a terrible thing, but desperation leads to bad choices and as far as bad choices go, Haruka tends to be king.

Frills

What were some lovely things you found especially catching?

Ammit

  • The Silver Millennium family is co-sleeping at Mamoru’s place. That’s so sweet.
  • Makoto was SO excited for Rei’s birthday
  • Makoto and Rei seemed like a really tight pair this episode, while Makoto and Minako seem like a really tight pair last episode, I love how true all these relationships are between the girls because they all have different facets that compliment each other.
  • Minako made herself Artemis PJs

Sono

Regarding Co-sleeping: Seconding this! It was super adorable, and I like that Usagi’s family will just let them go sleep over at Mamoru’s. It show trust in Usagi, and also that they have respect for Usagi and Mamoru’s relationship.

  • Minako’s Artemis PJ’s absolutely slayed me. I love them and want a pair.
  • The Sailor V Computer Base got a sweet couch. Can we get a stool for Artemis tho? He is probably sitting on some important buttons being up on the console like that.
  • Chibs has a crush on Hotaru already and it’s cute as heck.

 Quotable Quotes

What were some of the best or worst lines that stood out to you?

Sono

“Michiru, perhaps what we’re going to do is meaningless. Maybe it’s too late no matter what we do.” — “We started it knowing that, Haruka.”

-Haruka and Michiru, when they decide to also look for the talismans.

Ammit

”Do you take it for granted that women can’t beat men? Can you protect your precious ones with that mindset?”

-Haruka to the girls after they were upset with “him” for beating Makoto so thoroughly at Judo.

 Inquisition

These are questions sparked by the episode. Sono and Ammit discuss them in the show and want to hear your thoughts too. Please comment on this post to answer or use Twitter, Tumblr or send your replies to the inbox.

  1. If Hotaru can heal people why is she sick? Wouldn’t you think she could heal herself?
  2. Haruka chides the girls for their sexist mindset when they are upset with how she out-Judoed Makoto, what do you think is going on in that scene?
  3. Is Kalonite just calling the cat Daimon defective because it was defeated, or was it actually defective some how?
  4. Eudial presents herself to Magus Kalonite as Yuko Arimura, a student deeply involved in the school, so are the Witches 5 all students at Mugen Academy?

Focus

What are your thoughts on this episode and what if any messages came into focus for you?

Ammit

Akari’s role as the skeptic was well played. She has always questioned the Ganma and now that she has had the chance to speak with Alain, she is closer to learning the truth about Ganma World, but what’s more is that she has helped Alain to confront his own ignorance.

Takeru has always had a firmly rooted belief in himself and Alain has always had blind trust in his father, but with his father’s death, regaining his body and his escape from Ganma World, Alain is utterly lost. Morally he was a lost cause once, but now that his circumstances have changed so much, Alain is getting a second chance to learn what it is to be human and that involves finding something to believe in. I think that’s what these episodes are about. Having faith in something or someone seems to be essential to the human experience and Alain is becoming aware of and wrestling with that.

Aleph

So the big thing I really imprinted on is that Akari is the best.

I know that’s a controversial stance on this show, but I’m brave enough to stick with it.

Being serious, though, this almost-explicit conflation of Makoto and Alain as angry dudes in need of redemption and/or a perspective shift has been just fascinating for me and I’m still just adoring SO HARD this thing where the show just keeps hammering home not only how empty, joyless, and vicious fascist/totalitarianism can be.  “A perfectly ordered system” eeeeeesh. Critical thinking eff tee dubs.

Which, again, brings me back to Akari ‘cuz the thing I got from this the most is that if you want to make something good, you have to stay curious and flexible.

Sono

Not only is Akari the best, all three of the women in Ghost are the best, as much as Kanon sure doesn’t get to do enough.

But a lot of what I got out of 25/26 was focusing on trust, and your own perceptions of trust. Just because Takeru trusts Alain now doesn’t mean the rest of the household does. Akari has to confront Alain on her own and find her own reasons to trust him. This cycles a bit into a bone I have to pick dealing with Kanon’s trust of Alain and the fact that no one is talking about it, but I like the idea that everyone sort of has to adjust to Alain in their own time.

Alain also has to adjust to everyone else in their own time and learn to trust them in his own ways as well. He doesn’t trust Akari because she’s aware of his hesitations, which is something about himself he’s struggling with. Akari sees a weakness in him, and showing weakness where he comes from is bad.

I feel like the trust thing is maybe a more minor underlying thing in 25/26, but it’s one that resonates with me so it’s what I picked up on

Sarracenian’s Focus

Trust and teamwork are def a thing in these episodes. It’s funny too considering all we’ve talked about the Ganma World being a fascist nightmarescape that we kinda see how that ideology’s sort of self-interest and rejection of trust and mutuality/comradery(?) plays off of the heroes, and how Alain slowly learns to see how that line of thinking simply doesn’t work in the long run and only hurts himself more than anything.
Also wow did Apple/Microsoft just become the baddies in Kamen Rider?? That is the most modern thing to have happened in Kamen rider since

Woments

The unKamenCrew’s Top 3 moments that made them say “Woah” from this bit of Ghost

Ammit

25

  • Alain complaining about his body is just too much and I love it. He not only lacks awareness of himself emotionally, but also physically and I’m enjoying watching him grow into being a person again.
  • Kanon played off her dizzy spell really well. The actress did just the right balance to make me believe she knows something is WRONG, but she is going to cover it up to help move things along
  • Cubit is bothered by the sky’s lack of beauty

26

  • I have always loved Onari’s “hair flick” before he answers the phone. It’s such a funny tick.
  • The Red haze is a bio-mechanical super-organism brain. I am so into that.
  • Alain sees that Akari is so sharp she must be taken out for him to keep on with his nefarious plot. He can fool everyone except her.

Aleph

25

  • Akari just having zero time for Alain or his nonsense.  “You do everything like a supervillain.  I don’t trust you.”
  • The Eyecons having none of this “Wishing for more wishes” nonsense.  They’re some of history’s greatest figures, not the Konami code.

26

  • For all my complaining about how the plot is some InfoWars biz, I friggin’ adore it and that they explain the solution in a way that makes sense inside the framing they’d created.  “Everything is magnets” is frustrating when spoken by someone trying to tell you how to prevent cancer through their shiny gewgaws, but a fun puzzle to put in the background.
  • Also love that despite Sage being about to try and give Akari that inspiration whammy again, she just straight-up announced that problem was solved by the time he thought to actually do it.  Thank you, show.  I needed that.
  • Akari not even waiting for Takeru to show up before putting the Shinka-nui (I don’t know if that’s actually how you’d smash those words together; I imagine it’s not) plan into effect and neutralizing the red skies.

Sono

25

  • Alain went off to sulk and ate 10 boxes of takoyaki and then got a stomach ache and honestly that was one of my favorite bits in this episode. I also appreciate that while this was happening, Kanon kept an eye on him but gave him his space.
  • Okay so we have a sort of indirect explanation for why Kanon was an eyecon, or at least what I’m going to take as one. Kanon was allergic to the atmosphere in Ganma world and eventually she just couldn’t make a fake body anymore.
  • Tut’s little kid voice. Just a nice detail that I didn’t expect but really appreciate.

26

  • Overall I’m most impressed with the way the dynamic between Akari and Alain evolved over 25 and 26, and as much as I’m bothered by no one asking Kanon about why she’s so okay with this guy hanging around, it otherwise doesn’t feel off to me. Akari is perceptive, and she’s able to catch Alain’s hesitations. She misinterprets them at first, which is pretty reasonable given her hesitations toward him, but she actually takes a significant amount of time to talk to this dude and learn what’s up with him until she feels more comfortable with him and the idea that he’s changing. By the end of the episode she’s affectionately sassing him the way she does with everyone else. I appreciate the time the show gave to Akari and Alain over 25 and 26  and the nice little development arc between them.
  • On that, I really enjoyed Alain being like “My dad has magical chosen one powers” and Akari being like “Uh chosen by WHO?” and Alain not having any idea how to answer that question.
  • Onari’s got little freakin Ganma Mook stickers that’s adorable.

Sarracenian

  • Eyy wasn’t the Rider recap kinda cool in episode 25 even tho it skipped like a bunch of Riders unceremoniously (Even Japan doesn’t care about Super-1 :C :C :C :C :CCCC)
  • Quite liked the part where Takeru starts using Makoto’s bike. PRetty cool.
  • The scene where Akari instantly took notice of Alain obviously planning something behind their backs. Yo Akari’s got no time for that BS.
