What, if anything, is being said about the world and our place in it in this episode? Ghost deals with the idea of Icons and Great Men, in a way that makes focusing narrowly on obtaining tangible objects relating to them important, but what makes a person great? What does that mean?

Let’s turn a discerning eye to what could be the Macro Message hidden in this episode of Ghost!

Ammit’s View Ghost 15

There is an easy way to do things and a hard way to do things and people are usually going to do things in the way more natural to them. This is a stretch, more of an observation really and not a fantastic message to purposely cast at young minds.

Sono’s View Ghost 15

A little hard to say, but I’m going to lean into Makoto and Takeru on this one and go with there are some things you have to do by yourself, and there are some things you have to just step back from.

I know I’ve been going pretty heavy on how much I love the feeling of accomplishing things together, and how you can do so much more when you don’t force yourself to take the world on alone, but at the end of the day, you have to make decisions for yourself. Having people to help you is great, but you can’t let everyone else do everything for you.

On the other side of that same coin, you can’t solve everyone’s problems for them. No matter how good your intentions or how much you care, you need to let people come to conclusions for themselves and fight their own battles. It’s great to offer support if they need it and be there in whatever ways you can for the people you love, but it’s really easy to fall into the same traps and problems over and over when someone else is solving all of your problems.

Makoto grew stronger this week, and Takeru’s faith in him being able to fight for himself lent a lot to that. Takeru let Makoto fight for himself and Makoto was able to come through, and that faith in his friend allowed him to reach Musashi.

Sarranecinan’s View Ghost 15

)Honestly this episode is the first time I felt it was just “adequate”. As in, while the episode itself is fine, it also feels oddly “mechanical” I suppose?

The episode seemed to be out of the necessity of “we gotta give Makoto something to do somehow”, more so than previous episodes of the show where it all seemed to fall more or less in a fitting place. The banality of Kanon being kidnapped, compounded by how they brought back a previous villain thought to be dead only to finish him off again by the other guy all signal a really by the numbers setup.

Its odd to consider given how a lot of the episodes does have a some important character elements going on, such as the relationships Takeru and Alan have with Makoto, the hints of Kanon’s relation with Alan, a further exploration on the sentience of the Eyecons, etc.

Aleph’s View Ghost 15

It was alright, but it really is lacking some of the dynamism of earlier episodes.  It’s not bad, but it DEFINITELY felt like “Right now let’s get this last power-up out of the way so we can get going”.  Not even an excuse of having it written by someone else, tisk, tisk.

But looking to what I picked up, I focused largely on how Makoto’s hard-headed “I will MAKE you do what I say” thing is butting up against a will as strong as his own and we see how kinda jerky, pig-headed and useless that kind of powerplay can be as, honestly, there’s nothing to it.  Just screaming and screaming until you finally have to ask for help because you can’t make people help you, making yourself too tired and injured to do the things you need to do.

The unKamenCrew’s Top 3 (Maximum) Woments from Ghost 15

  • Ammit
  • Javert still being alive somehow
  • Kanon receiving Aran so warmly
  • Musahsi’s look and the fisheye inside the Musashi Eyecon

Sono

  • I love Kanon’s very sensible clothing choices. Winter coat, sweater, opaque (meaning likely cotton) leggings, and sneakers. The skirt is a little short, but it’s mid-calf at least and with the leggings she wouldn’t be cold. Cute and practical. Akari is also in sweaters and opaque leggings and longer skirts. Man whoever is on wardrobe for the girls this season gets my blessing.
  • Makoto specifically saying he wants to live as a human (Listening to his actual line, it’s not a translation choice. He does use those words.). I just like that choice of words, specifically directed at Aran because man that has to burn him a bit. Especially since we had that whole conversation between Aran and his brother about being able to have a human body with an Eyecon…
  • I have to imagine when we hit the listener feedback, we’re going to get some complaints about Makoto refusing Takeru’s help and Takeru not stepping in, but honestly I loved this. Makoto’s been faced with the threat of THE ENTIRELY OF HELL being after him (and probably also Kanon), and Takeru solving all of his problems for him and getting the big powerful upgrade. That really kills a dude’s moral. Houdini is his. He needs to figure it out on his own. He got Kanon in trouble again, he needs to get her out of it. When Takeru DID step in, Makoto didn’t get mad because at that point he REALLY needed the back up, but I love that Takeru understood that Makoto needed to fight for himself in order to be able to fight with Takeru. If Takeru and Kanon are relying on him, he needs to know he’s strong enough to be relied on.
  • Akari’s “Boys are so dumb.” and Onari in the back like “Yeah we sure are.” And just the look Kanon gives Akari like “Man that’s what I’ve been saying for the past 3 and a half months.” (I have screencapped this is we want to use it for the ep.)
  • The first like 5 minutes of this episode absolutely destroyed every bit of my soul. Everyone is so dang cute. We got this really peaceful moment that gave so much to everyone’s background.
  • Onari and Akari had some really cute banter in the opening scene too and I’m going to bring it up every damn time the two of them have great small interactions because I’ve been STARVING for this stuff for two years.
  • Onari fainting when he sees Yurusen while Akari just kind of doesn’t react.
  • Akari loves Houdini. That’s adorable. I hope Houdini and Edison become her besties.
  • The Javert-Kundali fusion was pretty sick looking.

Aleph

  • Look, I like that “Javert” is like the katana guy.  I hope he keeps coming back and I ADORE that when we look at his visor a little closer, it’s a big ol’ friggin’ eyeball behind it.  That’s beautiful.
  • I LOVE the whole thing with Makoto being made a prisoner of his own bone-headed thinking.  Might be iffy on the resolution, but it was a really nice visual.
  • Akari still basically calling Takeru a jackass for not showing up to help his bro, which… I mean I know that this is a “I will listen to you because you are my friend” thing and a self-confidence boost–like Sono was saying–but, look, if he’s saving Kanon to stroke his ego, yikes  Akari getting to point out when people are being jerks is a thing I never tire of.

Sarracenian

  • The old takoyaki lady is nice. A neat way to add in to the character relationships

In keeping with Ms. Akari’s love of the empirical, the following contains observable information from the events of the day Akari received a set of injuries and Takeru and Onari set up the Daitenkuu temple as a headquarters for staging paranormal investigations.

-86 day left

-Takeru Akari and Onari are setting up a celebration at Mrs. Fumi’s Takoyaki stand where they spent time as children eating her delicious fried octopus. When Makoto and Kanon arrive she is ealted and asks some questions, but Akari distracts her and she reminisces about those bygone days.

-Takeru recalls Ryu’s parting words about unitng the souls of the 15 Heroic Eyecons and suggests to Makoto that he try to befriend Houdini in order to get the Eyecon to open up for him, as it has yet to lend him power.

-Prince Aran summons Javert who didn’t actually die and orders him to closely follow his order and that Javert will be helping him gather the 15 Heroic Eyecons, Javert says he doesn’t know what the Eyecons do, he was just following orders to collect them. Prince Aran stops Javert when he says he will defeat Spectre and Ghost to take their Eyecons.

-In the lab Takeru struggle to communicate with MUSASHI through the Eyecon. Yurusen suggest he learn something from Onari who is hearing things from GOEMON’s Eyecon. Sage and Yurusen tell Takeru that the Ganma World IS Hell and Akari uses Shiranui Spider-Lantern on them, which makes for the first time Onari has seen them. Before Takeru can get any other information from them, Sage drops a hint about Houdini and then vanishes.

-Narita and Shibuya come into the lab and let Takeru, Akari and Onari know of reports of a dragon. Onari runs of jittering with excitement.

-Makoto and Kanon visit Mrs. Fumi at her food stand again to thank and compliment her. Prince Aran comes along and Kanon warmly greets him. Aran and Makoto leave to have a conversation and Kanon stays with Mrs. Fumi.

-Aran tells Makoto he can ruin his happiness with Kanon and Makoto answers that he wants nothing to do with the Ganma World. Javert attacks and defeats Makoto calling him weak and saying he has lost his strength. Takeru and Kanon come along after Spectre has been buried in gravel. Takeru uses Newton to free him and switches to Boost to fight Javert when Makoto is unable to.

-Javert says that individual lives are worthless which gets Takeru really fired up. Takeru uses GOEMON and attacks more and more ferociously, each time Javert asks for more until Aran calls him off. Javert tells Takeru he hopes to be better entertained next time and he teleports to Kanon who he grabs and spirits away with himself.

-Takeru, Akari and Makoto run around, desperately searching for Kanon. Makoto receives a message from Javert by way of an Eyecon that floats over and projects some images and Ganma-text for him.

-Makoto feels he can’t save Kanon without Houdini’s power and dismisses Takeru’s advice to befriend the Eyecon. He proceeds to demand HOUDINI give him power and tries to activate the Eyecon several times, until HOUDINI’s Eyecon levitates from Makoto’s hand, binds him with chains and controls Spectre’s bike so that it attacks him while he is bound.

-Takeru and Akari happen upon the sight and Makoto tells Takeru several times not to help him because he has to do this on his own, so he can save Kanon and fight side by side with Takeru. Makoto out maneuvers and mounts the bike taking control of it.

-Makoto meets Javert and steps off his back and transforms, with HOUDINI’s spectral chains still upon him. They fight and Akari and Takeru show up to watch, as Takeru intends to keep his word to Makoto and let him fight for and save Kanon.

-Akari tells Takeru he is stupid and crazy. Makoto tells himself he will surpass his own limits. Takeru says he believes in Makoto, which causes the MUSASHI Eyecon to glow. Javert calls a Kundali and Takeru transforms with Boost. Javert intends to fill Makoto with hatred by killing Kanon to make him a more powerful opponent.

-The Kundali traps Spectre under a bunch of rubble and Boost is barely able to protect Akari and Onari from the Kundali’s blasts. Makoto pleads with HOUDINI for help and gets it. The HOUDINI Eyecon frees him from the rubble and summons his bike to thrash to Kundali while he transforms.

-The HOUDINI Eyecon’s Hoodie Ghost incorporates the bike, split in half onto itself, enabling Spectre to fly and do all sorts of tricks. Spectre engages the Kundali, binding it in chains so that Makoto can break through it and hit Javert who had been taken inside the Kundali with hi HOUDINI OMEGA DRIVE, once again, seemingly destroying Javert.

-Makoto and Takeru shake hands and thank each other for everything they have done for each other. Prince Aran watches from afar as Makoto and Kanon part ways with Akari and Takeru.

-Takeru holds up the MUSASHI Eyecon saying he still needs to talk to Musashi. It glows red and he is taken inside the Heroic Eyecon. Musahsi compliments Takeru for staying true to Makoto. Musashi advises Takeru to act with the same sincerity towards the other Eyecons but warns him that some won’t be as helpful.

-Onari admits he was goofing about being able to hear GOEMON. Akari Onari and Takeru share laughs over his jest.

-Sage speaks to Ryu saying Takeru has taken another step

-In the Ganma penthouse, Prince Aran holds a heretofore unseen Eyecon that says NECROM on it.

RX129 Preshow: Kamen Rider Ghost 15 Reactions and Questions

The deadline for submitting feedback for Ghost 15 for -RX! 129 is Thursday January 28, 20106 12:30pm PST, but we welcome feedback anytime after that as well in our comments section, in or inbox or through Twitter or on Tumblr.

Hello everyone, this is Ammit here. I have some thoughts and feelings about mortality and postmortem legacy sparked by the last two episodes of Ghost.

I’m not sure this was such a good episode. There were separate parts I liked a lot and a few low points that just didn’t work for me. Prince Aran coming to Makoto again to offer him a chance to correct the mistakes he has made is a fantastic humanizing touch that adds a layer of complexity to Aran and gives an ominous vibe to Makoto, who says he will live as a human. What could that mean? Is Makoto still human, is he removing himself from the royal family’s protection in favor of siding with the Humans who the Imperialist Ganma intend to exploit? Was Makoto previously in alignment with those plans? There is so much going on here that draws me into the show and keeps it ringing in my head long after I’ve turned it off. My mind drifts to other ideas in this epiosde that I liked, but pulling at my mind’s eye is the sight of Kanon captured, bound and carried by her big brother. Kanon has been tough and while Javert did this before with Shibuya, it felt so much nastier this time. More personal for Javert and Makoto, but Kanon seemed denigrated to the level of an object this two guys were fighting over. Onari and Akari, heck maybe even Narita were there to free Shibuya while Takeru faced Javert previously and he was free from danger as soon as his purpose as a lure had been served. Javert wanted to use Kanon and threats to her safety to motivate Makoto and it just doesn’t sit well with me. Especially when Kanon isn’t given the time to sass or be outraged that Aran has betrayed her and is trying to use her to get to Makoto. There is more, but time is short and this will do for now.

Anyway, enough from me. We want to hear from you, so we have some questions for you to ponder so you can share your robust thoughts with us.

Bonus question: did you have any issues with Kanon’s abduction?

We can make it better when we work together!

Sono’s View Ghost 13/14

I watched both together, and I think they work best as a whole, so that’s where I’m gonna lean on this macro view.

The theme in the 13/14 arc seems to be along the lines of “dream big, but don’t dream alone”. It’s REALLY HARD to get things done by yourself. Especially huge things like saving the whole dang world from angry ghosts.

No protagonist in this arc did anything alone. Ryouma could have told Takeru to convince Nagamasa to pursue his dream without his father, but the whole point was to get them to work together instead. Two completely normal human beings were able to reclaim a Ganma controlled satellite through teamwork. That’s AWESOME. Even Akari, who was still injured, led our non-rider team into action by using her skills to figure out where the problem was located. Even Makoto is being drawn into that fold, relying on Kanon and having Akari and the others rely on him.

I feel like I mentioned in a past episode how our protagonists have people to rely on and our antagonists are very splintered, and this arc seems to want to cash in on that.

Aleph’s View Ghost 13/14

Guys, I’m just so happy about these episodes.  I also picked up on the explicitly and tremendously pro-social and pro-community messages and loved how everyone had something to give and REALLY loved how we’re doing that thing that superhero fiction generally and even Rider doesn’t do as often as I’d like where we highlight that non-super characters have something to offer us and it’s great.

The unKamenCrew’s Top 3 (Maximum) Woments from Ghost 12

Ammit

13

  • Yurusen telling Takeru about Ryoma AFTER he has been flipped
  • RYOMA knowing about Takeru saving Kanon
  • Onari calling out Takeru on NOT using GOEMON in the first fight

14

  •  Ganma soul sucking
  • Aran fighting Spectre and being a bit devious about it, with the sucker punches and the running and the GanMooks shields
  • These “second tier” Heroic Eyecons giving Takeru long coats

Sono

13

  • Yurusen was absolute gold this episode. Just constant absolute gold.
  • Takeru trying to listen to the eyecons while everyone is talking and the banter between him and Akari over him not paying attention.
  • Onari carrying Akari around. Look, I really love the fact that Akari is keeping this injury the full length of the recovery time and it’s not being brushed off by the plot. It’s stopping her from exactly nothing, and Onari carrying her on his back is adorable.

14

  • Team Ghost urging Takeru to handle the Ryouma situation while they take care of the Ganma. Ryouma says it best; Takeru has friends he can really rely on and that falls in with what this episode wants to say. It’s important that Takeru gets the Eyecon, so even of the other parts are harder or more dangerous, they’re willing to back him up no matter what.
  • Kanon is the best. I just get really excited any time Kanon shows up. I can’t wait for more from her now that we’re getting her out of the hospital.
  • Narita sensed the Ganma in the woods. I like that the spiritual characters are making some progress in their training!

Aleph

  • Uchuu Kitaaaaa!  Thank you for pandering to me, Kamen Rider Ghost.
  • Is the actress playing Akari actually injured? We’ve been sort of debating/discussing over here if we’re leaning into the “realtime” aspect of things with her leg healing or if maybe she didn’t actually get hurt and they’re just rolling with it.
  • I love me some Kabuki stuff, you guys.  So much.  The fireworks when Katana popped?  Amazing.

Sarracenian

  • Yo hey Sakamoto Ryoma is pretty cool. Fun sort of one-off character and based on already a pretty interesting and seldom talked about historical figure. Integrating history lessons in a fun way is always a good thing.
  • Really liked the way both episodes balances so many stories and developments seamlessly without feeling rushed or overcrowded. We learn simultaneously more about the Ganma and the Eyecons and dropping good number of hints as to what’s going on, while still telling a family drama of the week.
  • Have to reiterate how I like the team dynamic of the Rider and the other characters that we have. It reminds me a lot of the team dynamic the Early-Heisei and the Showa era had. While no means a new thing in superhero fiction, its still refreshing to see it come back in Kamen Rider, and having all of the cast getting involved in the story is only beneficial. That scene with Narita and Akari’s souls being taken for example would have been far less effective if they weren’t as invested in what was going on, and having that albeit small bit of tension is still better than none at all.

In keeping with Ms. Akari’s love of the empirical, the following contains observable information from the events of the day Akari received a set of injuries and Takeru and Onari set up the Daitenkuu temple as a headquarters for staging paranormal investigations.

-98 day left… again

-At Ryu’s grave Takeru thanks his father for helping him and promises to unite the 15 Heroes. Makoto comes along and pays his respects to Ryu as well as lament his own actions next to Takeru’s. Makoto lets Takeru know that Kanon is doing well and gives Takeru a limited answer as to what happened with him and Kanon 10 years ago. Makoto says they were pulled into the monolith and lived in the Ganma world, but he’ll explain more once he settles some thing.

-Prince Aran saunters through the Ganma World in search of his Majesty, his brother. He can’t find him at first within one of a few skyscraper like towers and deploys the Katana and Space Helmet Ganma to do some devious work while he finds his brother. Before leaving the scene Prince Aran remarks that he is now able to infuse the Ganma with power without Saionji who turned out to be useful in the end.

-The Ganma descend and the Space/PLANET Ganma emits an energy wave of some sort that messes with telecom devices and causes a particular fellow to stop yapping on his phone long enough to become possessed by an Eyecon. The spirit possessing the man remarks that this fellow has a big dream and that it is excited to reconnoiter modern Japan.

-Onari and Akari are with Takeru going over the Eyecon situation again, but he is trying to hear MUSASHI and clarifies to them that his dad said he had to unite the 15 Heroes, but that he doesn’t know how, although he did hear MUSAHSI’S voice in the battle with Javert. Takeru decides to see if SAGE will tell him anything.

-Takeru asks Sage if he knew his father. Sage tells him that Ryu is gone forever, unless Takeru can save them both by gathering the 15 Heroic Eyecons within 99 days. He dodges further inquiry by giving Takeru a clue about the next Heroic Eyecon to appear and vanishes himself.

-SAKAMOTO RYOMA who united forces around the country after the fall of the Shogunate and dedicated his life to improving Japan should be the next HEROIC EYECON to be found and may have infact been the one to posses the man on the phone from earlier.

-Takeru worries about safeguarding his father’s soul, but Onari comes screaming into the lab about a Ganma attack.

-Takeru along with Onari carrying Akari on his back, run near the epicenter of the trouble where the Space/PLANET Ganma is using people’s phones to knock them out and drain something from them to absorb it into itself. The trio sees a man with a sign and a line of people seeking his counsel and figure that he must be the source of the trouble.

-Yurusen tells Takeru that the man is in fact infused with an Eyecon, and the group disperses the crowd and Takeru transforms to confront the Ganma. The man tosses Ghost and Yurusen clarifies that the EYECON he is infused with the the RYOMA HEROIC EYECON.

-Takeru apologizes and asks RYOMA to let him link his soul with him. RYOMA brushes him off and asks what his dream is. Takeru says they don’t have time for that and says he just wants to defeat the Ganma and protect people. RYOMA suggests that he form an alliance like the Sat-Cho alliance he had formed to quell unrest. Takeru says he has no clue how to do that in modern times and the PLANET Ganma hits them all up on their mobiles.

-Takeru calls Yurusen and asks them where the Ganma is. Yurusen plays coy, but leads Takeru to the Ganma. Ryoma watches the odd group as Takeru struggles with Yurusen and Onari runs off carrying Akari on his back. Ryoma remarks that Takeru acts quickly when there is trouble despite some indecisiveness.

-Takeru finds the PLANET Ganma and is attacked by KATANA Ganma, who he is shocked to see because that Ganma killed him and he had destroyed it after becoming Kamen Rider Ghost.

-Onari and Akari use Spider-Lantern to see that the Ganma are double-teaming Takeru so Onari tries to toss GOEMON to Takeru, but Makoto shows up and transforms to help his friend.

-Takeru almost defeats KATANA Ganma, but PLANET Ganma creates a barrier for them saying they have a more important concern at present. The Ganma get away and Takeru thanks Makoto for helping him.

-Makoto leaves and RYOMA steps in chiding Takeru for saying his life will burn bright even though he is dead. RYOMA “back in my days…” a bit and Takeru doesn’t know how to reason with the old man.

-RYOMA ignores his concerns and says that the guy he is possessing needs help with a problem to fulfill his big dream and says Takeru will help him create a Sat-Cho Alliance. Takeru agrees though he doesn’t know what to do. RYOMA recedes and lets the man return to consciousness.

-Akari tells Takeru that she and Onari will try to figure out what is going on with the cellphones and people collapsing and notices him wavering but chooses not to say anything to him when Takeru notices her change in expression.

-Takeru explains the situation to TAMURA NAGAMASA who is an admirer of Sakamoto Ryoma and has a dream involving Space. TAMURA works with KAMEYAMA HEAVY INDUSTRIES, designing satellites. He is having trouble with his current project because he needs the help of an older engineer who is resistant to helping him. It’s his father.

-Prince Aran tells PLANET Ganma tha the has a plan to rapidly expand the scope of their agenda and tells KATANA Ganma to deal with Takeru so he doesn’t further meddle with their plans.

-Akari explains to Onari, Narita and Shibuya that the Ganma’s attacks have all happened within a one kilometer radius and she’ll be monitoring the area from the lab and asks them to go there so they can report first hand to her anything that happens there.

-TAMURA NAGAMASA and Takeru visit Tamura Techology Works, Incorporated to see TAMURA SATSUNOSHIN, NAGAMASA’s father. NAGAMASA pleads with his father to help him complete this satellite which will greatly advance Japan’s space development. NAGMASA says they dreamt of working together, a father and his two sons, for a long time. SATSUNOSHIN isn’t interested and pushes NAGAMASA away. Takeru comes between them and SATSUNOSHIN asks who he is.

-Takeru fails miserably to untie father and son. SATSUNOSHIN tells NAGAMASA to never come back and NAGAMASA says he wouldn’t want to anyway. RYOMA takes over and chides Takeru for not taking care of the issue and says a man needs to follow through on his word. KATANA Ganma cuts their conversation short and Takeru learns that someone wants him dead! Deader, anyway.

-Takeru uses Boost, but is unable to keep up with the … swallow themed KATANA Ganma. Onari insists that Takeru use GOEMON because some tell of him being a NINJA, so he ought to have some speed in his HEROIC EYECON.

-Takeru uses GOEMON and defeats KATANA Ganma with the Sunglass Slasher’s OMEGA Shine! And we get fireworks!

-Prince Aran leads PLANET Ganma into a facility that has something to do with satellites the Ganma uses its power to project a Ganma Eye onto a satellite in orbit. Akari sees on her screen in the lab that around the one kilometer center cluster of the incidents there is a vaguely eye-shaped pattern of incidents emerging.

-Sage looks concerned. Prince Aran looks excited.

Miscellaneous: No Hug of Redemption this episode, but we got a hand shake of resolution

-Akari assures Takeru that she and the others will take care of monitoring the situation with the Ganma’s growing power while he works on the modern Sat-Cho alliance with the TAMURAS. RYOMA appreciates the quality friendship he sees between Takeru and the others.

-NAGAMASA tells Takeru what happened to cause a rift between him and his father. They worked passionately together towards furthering space-travelling capabilities, as far as satellites are concerned anyway, until NAGAMASA’s older brother died.

-SATSUNOSHIN was as passionate and fiery back then as he is now and he and his first son were arguing about differences in a design. When his son ran from the conflict, he was hit by a car and died. SATSUNOSHIN couldn’t go back to working on the thing that was so tangled in his son’s death, despite the fact the NAGAMASA was able to continue the dream the three shared.

-Akari sends Onari and Shibuya to go investigate an area where abnormal radio signals were recorded shortly before PLANET Ganma’s attack. Narita stays behind with her to help with whatever he can.

-Akari calls Makoto but he doesn’t answer. He speaks with Kanon at the hospital and she encourages him to go help Takeru and the others.

-NAGAMASA and Takeru go to visit SATSUNOSHIN at work, but NAGAMASA is too apprehensive about seeing his father, so Takeru goes to speak with him alone.

-Takeru hears SATSUNOSHIN speaking to a photo of himself with NAGAMASA and YOSHIYUKI and how there time working together was the happiest time in his life. When Tkaeru asks him why he won’t work with NAGAMASA anymore, he says he can’t stop thinking of YOSHIYUKI.

-Takeru gives SATSUNOSHIN his own line he heard from NAGAMASA about Space being Humanity’s dream that can only be achieved by people working together, but SATSUNOSHIN pushes him out of his office.

-Takeru returns to NAGAMASA and encourages him to keep working on his dream, but NAGAMASA just walks away.

-RYOMA talks control again and compliments Takeru, Ryu actually, on Takeru finally getting “it.” But just then Shibuya calls and interrupts the moment with a call that he and Onari are under attack. Takeru runs off, but RYOMA stops him saying that panic will just make things worse. Makoto shows up the protect them and calls Takeru to say he will handle things there so that Takeru can do what he must. RYOMA remarks that it is good to have friends and Takeru decides to go talk to SATSUNOSHIN again and drags NAGAMASA along.

-Takeru tells the TARUMAS that he wants to see them work together on designing their satellite and launching it into space for him. If they can do this, YOSHIYUKI’s memory will live on. SATSUNOSHIN asks if YOSHIYUKI would really want him to do that and NAGAMASA says he would be elated as the brothers always strove to follow in their father’s footsteps. They agree to work together and Takeru is relieved to have helped forge the second Sat-Cho Alliance!

-Makoto defeats the GanMooks gathered in the woods where Akari had sent Shibuya and Onari, but Prince Aran and PLANET Ganma are still able to proceed with their plan.

-Prince Aran speaks with his brother about the power of the Heroic Eyecons as more than weapons, but the Emperor dismisses the notion of gaining a living body with the Heroic Eyecons and says they are only weapons to them. The Emperor gave Javert order which were meant to keep Aran in the dark about the alternate use for the Heroic Eyecons while still making it possible to gather them.

-The Emperor also mentions that the Ganma need humans for something…

-Akari calls Takeru to tell him that the Ganma has taken control of a satellite in order to amplify its power. She and Narita both pass out from the interference on the phone and something comes from them and heads towards the Ganma.

-NAGAMASA receives a call and tell his father that one of the satellites he built has been taken over. Takeru realizes that people’s souls are being gathered by the Ganma. The TARUMAS decide to help Takeru because they refuse to see their dream used to hurt people.

-Takeru and the TARUMAS join Makoto Onari and Shibuya at the station where the satellite is being used to absorb to absorb human souls en masse. PLANET Ganma shows up and says that they need human souls for their world. Takeru responds that though he may not know what his own dream is he wants to protect others so they can pursue theirs. RYOMA is pleased to hear this and exorcizes himself from NAGAMASA and Takeru obtains the RYOMA EYECON.

-Makoto and Takeru transform and fight. Aran attacks Spectre. He jacks his shotgun and tosses it aside. One of Makoto’s Heroic Eyecons won’t work.

-The TAMURAS work together to shut down the satellite and PLANET Ganma rockets into space to mount and operate the satellite personally. Takeru uses the RYOMA EYECON to dispatch GanMooks then Yurusen calls Captain Ghost to fly Takeru into orbit.

-Takeru destroys the Ganma and all the souls descend and return to their bodies. Aran fumes. Takeru and RYOMA take in the beautiful view of our blue planet.

-Happy denouement: TAMURAS are working together. Onari and Akari are bickering. RYOMA’s Heroic Eyecon talks to Takeru and Takeru resolves to make the Eyecon’s dreams come true, starting with MUSASHI.

RX128 Preshow: Kamen Rider Ghost 13-14 Reactions and Questions

The deadline for submitting feedback for Ghost 13-14 for -RX! 128 is Wednesday January 20, 20106 12:30pm PST, but we welcome feedback anytime after that as well in our comments section, in or inbox or through Twitter or on Tumblr.

Hello everyone, this is Ammit here. I have some thoughts and feelings about mortality and postmortem legacy sparked by the last two episodes of Ghost.

Carrying on someone else’s dream is featured in Kamen Rider Ghost 13-14. This seems like it will explicitly be the set up for this leg of the show and in a way looking back, was a massive undercurrent in the first 12 episodes. Ryu did tell Takeru he was sorry for leaving this mess behind and in a flashback we saw him tell Dr. Igarashi they were working at something to preserve a future for Humanity. Ryu died and it seems he failed to accomplish his mission which has fallen to Takeru.

A dead someone’s dream or the wish of a dear one departed can be a burden or a blessing. Death changes people. Obviously the dead are gone and whether they are asleep in the earth or compost, depending on your worldview, their part here is done except for the ripple of their life reverberating through and past those close to them. It’s interesting to think about a person’s life in terms of a ripple upon the surface of placid waters because there are so many different types of people and so many different ways to orient one’s life that the simple analogy fails to plumb the depths and express the granularity of the truth. One could argue that because we live in an increasingly connected world that the shockwaves of our actions should all cancel out and distort each other, but I would say that it is more like we are all connected in an even more fantastical way than the wonders of modernity might lead us to believe. People are squishy and set in their ways and set in our connections. Each of us has an impressive ability to distance ourselves from things happening around us as well as connect to things far away and even the nonexistent. It is like we all form webs of different sizes shapes and orientations that connect to few or many points and that each of these points affixes to the structure of the world everyone builds around them from whatever they have in hand. When we lose someone, when they are ripped away or fall from the scaffolding attached to this tangled, sticky mess – everything shifts. The central tether holding their microcosm is severed and the slack causes it to collapse in on itself. Lines tear away from tension while other slump and others hold fast, each according to their mettle and circumstance.

Yoshiyuki’s death tore his father and brother apart because both were trying to honor his memory. The father who had lost his son, a very real part of himself made manifest and given a separate will from his own, who fled from him because of a conflict was lost forever. Satsunoshin clung to the memory of his son and was terrified to pull at the threads connected to the ruins of his life for fear that even the rubble and debris might be lost to him. The son who lost his older brother wanted to hold on to the dream that they shared and the dear one with whom they shared it, their father. The rubble of his Yoshiyuki’s tragic end would never be disturbed, and nothing could bring him back, but Nagamasa didn’t want to also let their dream die and strove toward even without their father.

Takeru was able to help the Tamuras connect the tattered web of their life back together and has patched his own to a large extent, but will he be able to live out his father’s dream of preserving a future full of potential? Will Takeru find his own dream?

Anyway, enough from me. We want to hear from you, so we have some questions for you to ponder so you can share your robust thoughts with us.

Burning Bright(ly)- Ghost 12 -RX! 127

Join us as we take a critical eye to Kamen Rider Ghost. Will Takeru save himself and the Kamen Rider franchise in the [21] days he has left on this blue planet? Find out how we think he’s doing as we pass judgement on:

What, if anything, is being said about the world and our place in it in this episode? Ghost deals with the idea of Icons and Great Men, in a way that makes focusing narrowly on obtaining tangible objects relating to them important, but what makes a person great? What does that mean?

Let’s turn a discerning eye to what could be the Macro Message hidden in this episode of Ghost!

Ammit’s View Ghost 12

The key to succeeding in life is embracing life as you’re going through all the mechanical bits of it that get you to the end of the day or the end. It’s hard to define, but I was most impacted by how Takeru spent what were likely to be his last days. He just did things and spent time with the people who matter to him and it was beautiful. Making the most of each day doesn’t mean jumping from a plane or any other thing, but treasuring what comes to you and that is just an amazing thing to see in a Karate Bugman show which acts as a vehicle to sell toys.

Sono’s View Ghost 12

“Nothing is hopeless”? It’s hard to pin down because this is such a transitional episode, but the greater message of the series seems to involve a lot of the idea that nothing is hopeless, and that you’re never alone, which I’m really enjoying a lot.

There’s a nice divide between our protagonists, and our much more fragmented antagonists. Every protagonist has someone to fall back on. And often it’s more than one person, or a different person in different situations. Even when he seemed most alone, Takeru had Ryu to help him. And then even Ryu was talking about unity among the heroic eyecons. It’s just a nice message to be sending, even if I’m going a little more macro than just the episode and looking more at the series as a whole.

Sarranecinan’s View Ghost 12

Live life to your fullest and without regret. Even within a hopeless situation never lose your hope for a better future, for it is that which will prove rewarding in the end despite all of life’s hardships. Its a classic message in Kamen Rider but done really well here, with Takeru never losing his optimism and hope, and how even in seemingly impossible circumstances can be rewarding in the end.

Aleph’s View Ghost 12

I mostly got something pretty similar to y’all, a lot of stuff about how the important stuff is less what you do or accomplish and more how you live.  That whole “don’t try to be a great man, just be a good one” thing that always makes me happy.

On top of that… look, I’ve said it before, I will say it again (and again and again and again): I love that this show goes harder in 12 episodes than many whole Rider series go in 50.

The unKamenCrew’s Top 3 (Maximum) Woments from Ghost 12

Ammit

  • Takeru’s passing day montage
  • Onari losing it at the calendar
  • Prince Aran turning his rage towards Takeru

Sono

  • Akari still on crutches and still getting shit done. (Ghost is Kamen Rider Getting Shit Done)
  • WE GOT TO SEE TIME PASS ON SCREEN. Man that was nice. Onari and Takeru training together, Takeru taking Akari to the physics exhibit she’d wanted to see with him, everyone looking for eyecons together, spending new years together… I wish we’d seen a bit more of this through other time jumps but it really meant something here so I’m glad that this was how it was used. It made the lead-up to Takeru’s death so much more sentimental.
  • On the morning of the last day, Onari walks up to Akari and asks if she stayed up all night and if she needed any food. There was some real genuine concern and it was really sweet and I’m still loving every interaction between these two. Seeing them both break down the night before was great too. Really well done by both of them. Their chemistry is really great.

Aleph

  • I forgot about the sunglasses sword.  I… guess it’s a callback to the eye theme?  So weird.
  • But yeah, basically what Sono said.  The Ascension?  The look on his face?  The inner peace and his friends breaking down while Specter gets his face beat in by Javert?  Amazing.
  • Speaking of: Yeah, Akari and Onari really brought the noise this ep. They cried, I cried, everyone cried.

Sarracenian

  • SHIT IS GETTING DONE.
  • OH MAN, the first part of this episode is just perfect. It has been so long that we’ve really seen Kamen Rider actually have this level of real humanity to it. The emotions feel genuine and every note hits where it should. Takeru’s hope isn’t just done as lip-service but shown through these scenes of them having fun, celebrating holidays and just LIVING their lives despite their situation. Scenes with Takeru and Onari standing under the waterfall, or going with science expos with Akari. It all shows
  • It almost kinda has these vibes of person with terminal illness who still chooses to live their lives at the fullest, which is not only unique thing that the show can call its own, but also a very good thing to show to kids as well.

In keeping with Ms. Akari’s love of the empirical, the following contains observable information from the events of the day Akari received a set of injuries and Takeru and Onari set up the Daitenkuu temple as a headquarters for staging paranormal investigations.

New Heroic Eyecon Summoned: Boost AKA Dad is Rad

Miscellaneous: There was a lot of crying on both sides of the screen

-21 days left

-Takeru visits Ryu’s grave, asking his father if he made the right choice in saving Kanon and not himself.

-Akari and Onari assess the situation down in the lab. Onari is dour while Akari remains hopeful that gathering the 15 Heroic Eyecons again will enable Takeru to wish for his life back. Takeru has 8, Makoto has 3, so they need to find 4 others to see if they even can call on the Divine Eye again.

-Takeru enters the lab and Onari leaves after hearing that Takeru hasn’t seen Sage all day and his heater is gone. Takeru gets his book of heroes as Akari dismisses the potential threat of their apparent Sage-lessness and says they must gather the 15 Heroic Eyecons.

-Takeru remarks how Akari has changed now that she believes in the supernatural. She corrects him and says she doesn’t but she is pushing that aside to work with what she knows is happening with him. He thanks her for that as she studies the Monolith, she tells him to thank her when he is alive again.

-The whole Daitenkuu crew works to find the remaining Eyecons. Narita and Shibuya canvas with drawings of Eyecons asking if anyone has seen one. Onari and Takeru search the temple grounds and Akari works in the lab to find a way to gather the missing Eyecons.

-Makoto is with Kanon in the hospital. He tells her the doctors say she needs to rest and offers her an orange. She asks if there is something they can do to help Takeru.

-Prince Aran joins Makoto as he stares out at the water in his usual place and says that he could have helped save Kanon and that Makoto should have asked him for help with that instead of gathering the 15 Heroic Eyecons. Makoto says he didn’t want her to be saved “like that.” Prince Aran asks Makoto if he knows what treason means for him and assures Makoto that next time they meet it will be as nemeses. After Makoto leaves Prince Aran bitterly declares that Takeru Tenkuuji changed his best friend.

-Javert asks Prince Aran why he let Makoto go. Aran deflects and demands that he give over the Heroic Eyecons he has and says he is going to see his brother. Javert grudgingly hands over 2 Heroic Eyecons and Aran leaves. Javert balks at the idea that he made mistakes and spits out that he will leave no liabilities.

-As death draws ever closer, Takeru continues living. He trains, he participates in religious rituals and festivals and he takes Akari to the Dawn of Nuclear Physics Exhibit he blew off almost 3 months ago on his birthday.

-Narita and Shibuya continue looking for Eyecons and fret over how difficult it is when Javert makes his presence known to them.

-January 9. Daitnekuu Temple. Evening. Onari shakily scratches off another date and walks away from the calendar weeping as January 10, 2016, the day of Takeru’s death is at hand. Akari breaks down in the lab as all her efforts to find a solution prove fruitless. Takeru lays in bed unable to sleep. He quietly calls out to his father. Ryu’s ghost manifests in the room and watches over his son.

-The next morning Takeru is praying when Akari comes up from the lab. He greets her and Onari with enthusiasm and answers their dour response with an appreciation for all they have done just incase he goes. He encourages them that everything might be fine, but is interrupted by Narita collapsing onto the temple steps telling them that a Ganma has taken Shibuya.

-Takeru rides out to save his friend and meets Javert where Shibuya and Narita had been the day before. Onari and Akari free Shibuya while Takeru fights Javert.

-Javert is too strong and knocks Takeru down, but Makoto joins the fight to protect Takeru. He encourages him to keep fighting, but when Takeru rises to fight his Ghost armor vanishes. A golden light appears in the sky above him and Akari and Onari run to Takeru to say their good-byes before he vanishes into the light.

-Takeru meets Ryu in the afterlife. They embrace and Ryu tells his son he is proud of him and that only he can unite the 15 Heroic Eyecons and guide everyone towards a bright future. Ryu tells Takeur he still can and he embraces him again and vanishes, a light shining all over Takeru who is left alone.

-Makoto says he will fight on for Takeru and protect Onari and Akari as Javert is overpowering him. Onari and Akari come to his side and Makoto tells them to run but they say they can’t lose him too.

-Takeu descends from the sky shimmering with golden sparkles and transforms with the BOOST EYECON into Kamen Rider Ghost: Rad Dad form! Ghost Boost destroys Javert easily after deflecting his attacks with the SUNGLASS SLASHER and delivering a Rider Kick.

-Sage explains that Takeru has a 99 day extension on his Eyecon collecting and vanishes saying it will be the last.

-Takeru asks Makoto to join him in fighting the Ganma, but refuses saying there is something he has to deal with.

-Back at Daitenkuu temple Takeru, Akari and Onari discuss the encounter with Ryu, the continuing fight against the Ganma, gathering the remaining Heroic Eyecons and the Supernatural Phenomenon Laboratory’s reopening.
