Legendary Silver Tongue- Sailor Moon Crystal 22 -MS 20

This week, Sono and Ammit discuss the power of words and the importance of spin. If time allows, we have a bonus topic, so let’s see if we can get to it!

This episode we forgo our usual structure of breaking down Crystal into two linear blocks of discussion we call the Meat and Veggies and the Frills

The Tongue is Held Back By Two Barriers

“Four things come not back: The spoken word, The sped arrow, The past life, The neglected opportunity.”

-Arabian Proverb

Evil gossip kills three: the one who says it, the one who listens, and the subject of the gossip

-Talmud

Wiseman’s lies have been like water from a poisoned well, secretly filling the Black Moon with hatred and animosity towards Neo Queen serenity and her cohorts while wasting them away from within. Saphir says his brother is blind to what is happening and has gone mad, but Saphir himself reads as unstable, and I am certain that has to do with his proximity to Wiseman’s and Nemesis’ toxicity. When confronted with the truth and the power of the Legendary Silver Crystal, Wiseman draws near to Demande and reaffirms the lies the Prince regurgitates to strengthen his hold over him and keep him functioning as a proxy to achieve his goal.

22-IChanging the Narrative and Blaming the Victim

That’s a bad thing to do. Even in amicable relationships it is hard to admit fault. facing oneself and seeing the flaws and mistakes can be hard, but it’s what good people do. It is what adults have to do, or at least they should. Blaming people for your insensitivities or for being upset that you wronged them is a clear indicator that you still have some growing up to do and you probably should take a time out and look at yourself before as an outsider for

Demande and Saphir both blame Usagi for things going poorly. These brothers share more than DNA, they share wrongheadedness. Here are a few examples of their faulty logic

  • They are the ones who decided murder and violence were the path to changing the world’s structure.
  • Wiseman is the one who poisoned Demande and helped fuel his obsession with destroying Neo Queen Serenity and the Legendary Silver Crystal.
  • The way you feel when you behold someone is your responsibility to manage. From lust to deep and abiding hatred, no one else is responsible for you letting feelings develop and even more so, no one is to blame for you choosing to act upon them.

Only Solutions

“Each problem has hidden in it an opportunity so powerful that it literally dwarfs the problem. The greatest success stories were created by people who recognized a problem a turned it into an opportunity.” Joseph Sugarman

22-E

Or as a foreman once told me, there are no problems, only solutions! I think we see Usagi adopt some version of these proverbs in her opening scene where she is wandering the castle. She was told it was inescapable and her friends are supposedly dead, but she doesn’t care. She looks at the situation and sees that there is a way out for her and them. She took courage from their strength before and now knowing for certain, whether it is true or not, Usagi is not going to give up hope or stop fighting. Every challenge she has faced on Nemesis has brought her closer to seizing the power in her heart and turning it on those who would harm the world and it all stemmed from how she twisted the circumstances to be in her favor. People who behave badly and have malicious intent use lies and twisted truths to play people and situation to their advantage all the time. This is such a powerful tool and the oppressed need to learn how to use this handy tool too. Usagi twisted the dire reality of the situation into a chance to conquer and regain her position

Power Through Truth… More or Less

If only this was how things actually worked. If facts and knowledge of the truth not only coincided with, but were the cause of the just and right gaining strength to overcome evil, the world would be a much better place. But that isn’t how things work, not yet anyway. I think I should trick myself, like Usagi, to believe in the truth-to-be. This is something Rabbi Gordon of chabad Encino calls supranatural. It’s not illogical to believe that the just can overcome injustice and the world can be a place filled with peace and joy, but it is hard. It is easy to think that things will never change and suffering will persist, but what good is it? How can we rise up against the bad if we believe it is insurmountable? Good people need to strengthen themselves to have faith that they can change the world for the better or it will never happen. The bad believe in there cause, so should the good.

Ammit’s Favorite Line

“Usako… lend me your power. Let me find Chibi-Usa!”

-Mamoru, while braving the Space Time storm and clutching the Moon Rod.

Sono’s Favorite Line

“Everyone, transform! I’ll give you a hand!”

-Usagi, to Rei, Ami, and Makoto as she reaches the power of the Silver Crystal through Nemesis to assist them.

Bonus- A look at the Background of Endymion

John Keats wrote an epic poem about Endymion and his eternal love, Cynthia (changed from Selene) the moon, in 1818. Other poets and writers have written about him or based on the legend.

According to Wikipedia where everything can be believed, Endymion is a character from Greek myth who was able to spend a lot of time under the stars due to his occupation, which ranges from shepherd to king, and allowed him the time and opportunity to fall in love with the moon. He was super gorgeous and the moon fell in love with him. Because he was Zeus’ kid in some stories, and because Selene, goddess of the moon is a Titan Endymion had no agency in some of the stories about him and Selene either asks Zues to make Endymion eternally youthful or fall into eternal sleep, which preserves his good looks. In either case Endymion is being acted upon by the two. In some versions of the story, he isn’t a son of Zeus. There is a version of the story where Selene visits Endymion every night as he is in eternal sleep in a cave and they somehow consort and she bares 50 daughters and no sons.

It seems like the attraction to the moon and the eternal sleep or preservation were the big take-aways for people who heard the tale of Endymion first hand from reading through the wiki. I wonder if his tale was meant to comfort mourners that there dearly departed were asleep in the grave and that their beauty and splendor would never fade from that point on?

Also, there is a butterfly with endymion in the scientific name, the Anatolian Odd-Spot Blue

One more thing, Selene is depicted in a painting with Endymion wearing a crescent moon on her forehead!

Weather 2.0 -Drive 29-30 -RX! 106

Today we’re putting Kamen Rider Drive to the test as speedy as we can, as we investigate:

29 What Really Happened During the Robbery?

30 Who Can Expose the Culprit?

+ The Tokujou Stuff

Special edition question zero:  Why is the special episode a mystery about some people I don’t care about exploring some lore I double don’t care about which I can’t imagine adds anything to the main story when we could be finding out why it is that Kiriko and Krim are incompatible as Rider and Belt?

Q1-What are your thoughts on Chase lying to Kiriko about Gou?

Q2-Does the alteration of Gou’s memories justify his recent actions, such as pushing Kiriko or trying to kill Chase when under 050s hate spell?

Q3-Is Chase being noble or foolish in not ending things with Gou? What would you do in his shoes?

Q4- What do we all think of this? Is this an excellent moment and great question for the show to ask? How many of you have been waiting for the show to do something like this?

Facts-What we know, know about the plot and characters of the show

29|

-Brain offers Gou sympathies about being upstaged by a newcomer and invite him to join him in going to visit 001. Gou’s response it didn’t thrill him, he transformed and tried to kill him, but he stopped after Brain shows him his NOT-iPad.

-Negishi Itsuro age 36, who just finished a 12 year stretch for similar robberies in the past wherein he killed his father, is the fused-with-Roimude (067) bank robber with a special ability to open near anything.

-Shinnosuke pleads with the Captain Nira to be allowed to work on the case but Nira just insults him. Even when Honganji appeals to Nira’s sense of pride, he continues to insult their young detective and his cohorts by putting them to the task of menial labor instead of using their resources to combat the criminal at large, who happens to also be a cybernetic creature which is the specialty of the SCU

-Honganji tells Kiriko that Tomari Eisuke was not killed in the line of duty but died protecting a little girl from being shot during a bank robbery. That is the official story anyway, but Honganji says there are some details that just don’t line up.

– Brain assigns targets for Roimude 067 to kill. Shinnosuke noticed that the last three victims had all been at the bank 12 years ago. He and the others wonder if 001 really is involved with this case and he hopes that he can find out the truth about his father’s death by pursuing it.

-The shift cars are sent to protect the other potential victims who I assume saw something that 001 wants hidden.

– Maruya, Negishi’s accomplice from 12 years ago had gotten a 6 year sentence and reformed himself. Gen found him and spoke to him about his former criminal pal and he was surprised that he was now killing people. Otta says Maruya remembers now, contrary to his testimony at the time, that his friend didn’t kill the Tomari Eisuke but his memories are foggy.

-Shinnosuke runs off declaring he knows what the mystery behind the case is. He talks to Maruya some more, but finds nothing interesting except for the fact that Maruya says he feels as if he can’t physically can’t remember what happened the day of the robbery.. OH. Also,Maruya and Eisuke have the same scar behind their right ears, shaped like a snowflake.

-Rinna  gives Kiriko Chaser’s repaired shift car, but isn’t sure the data recovery will work.

-Negishi was sent to kill Mayura and Shinnosuke is glad to beat the truth out of him. Fortunately Chase shows up to deal with the Roimude more properly and Kiriko is there to help, too. Unfortunately Brain shows up with Gou and sicks him on Drive and Chase.

-Gou is super-effective for a bit, but Chaser bursts back into action to save Maruya and reminds Shinnosuke that his job is to protect people, not serve himself with his power [PERIOD!] by find answers regarding his dad’s death.

-Shinnosuke escorts Kirko and Maruya to safety and Chase splits after doing his finisher,  leaving Brain miffed, 067 blood lusty and Gou possibly gassy.

30|

-The SCU is going over the case and Chase lets them know that there is a Roimude who uses threads of ice to rewrite memories, leaving behind a snowflake mark behind the ear of anyone altered.

-Gou attacks Chase. Chase beats him and sees the scar behind his ear and leaves him because Kiriko would be hurt if he killed Gou, despite the fact that Gou says he’ll keep coming after Chase.

-Shinnosuke calms Kiriko down when she, as he was with Maruya, is too forceful in attempting to get information out of Yukari. He reminds her that the police are to first do no harm when protecting people.

-Yukari’s mother comes to speak to Kiriko and Shinnosuke and thanks him for his father saving her daughter.

-067 goes to the hospital to kill Yukari. Shinnosuke triggers Yukari’s memories by saving her the same way his father did and runs off to defeat 067. Chaser and Drive tag team the Roimude, Chase pulls Negishi out and Shinnosuke destroys the Viral Core.

-Negishi’s unrepentant response to Shinnosuke about why he turned back to crime is probably a lie as he has the snowflake behind his ear, but he still goes off to jail. As Otta takes him to a police car Shinosuke asks himself, “If Negishi didn’t shoot my father, does that make him just as much a victim in this as everyone else?”

-Yukari lets Shinnosuke know that she remembers seeing 001 at the bank robbery 12 years ago.

-Chase lies to Kiriko about Gou’s scar because he doesn’t want her to worry. She assumes Gou is playing the Roimudes and thanks him. She hands him the Drive System Shift Car and he Tunes it. He is staggered by his memories and projects a scene of 001, 002 and 003 standing over him talking. They all change to their human faces and begin their operation on him.

-Shinnosuke is shocked when he recognizes Makage as 001.

Potential Leads- These are things to keep an eye on, as they may develop into something more interesting or central to the narrative in time

29|

30|

-Where is any of this going?

Other Notes-Things that stick out, but aren’t really important to the narrative

29|

– Is Chase’s theme a cross between Kikaider and Stairway to Heaven?

30|

Best Line?

-Nada-

Unintentional Gambit – Sailor Moon Crystal 22 Review

Sailor Moon Crystal 22 – Hidden Agenda – Nemesis

In Hidden Agenda, Saphir lays bare the Black Moon’s original plans for the Earth as well as the complications and changes to their plans that came when Wiseman contacted them. We glimpse the made-over Chibi-Usa and Wiseman’s smiling eyes, which tell us that there is something more going on. Takeuchi’s long game pays off as things set up over multiple episodes come to fruition here, for the second time. This is another set up episode after one only a few episodes ago and utilizing much of the same elements, but it feels good because of the active role Usagi takes in rearranging the pieces.

While there was some heavy exposition, the plot felt like it moved along quickly, perhaps even forcefully, because so many moves were made. Mamoru wanders through time asking Usagi for strength and carrying her busted up Moon Rod. Usagi learns her friends are somewhere in the castle. Demande tries to put the moves on Usagi again, but Usagi and Mamoru’s love stops it. She defiantly tells Demande she’s going to save her friends and follows through. The encounter with Saphir shows how deluded Demande is, how Saphir himself has become unstable from all of this, and establishes an issue for Usagi to answer with a clear, focused and powerful response.

The facade of the Prince’s power over the future Queen warps and cracks as he once again attempts to show her that she has no agency in their relationship and never did. He had fooled himself into thinking that his resolve and borrowed power were enough to strip away everything from her. His self-deception comes from the fact that he wants to defeat Neo Queen Serenity, but is left with the option to fight her past self before she became the woman he fixated upon and hated. Demande is like the anti-Endymion, in that he doesn’t believe in Usagi. His overconfidence is his weakness and it sets the stage for Usagi to prove him wrong by, for a time expressing her inner strength and expressing the full potential within.

In Conclusion

Act 22 earns a 3 out of 5 for executing a competent setup with recycled materials and showing off the awesome power of self love and personal affirmation.

Bad Timelines and Histories – Rider Jump 3

4-Rider Jump -B

Bad Timelines and Poorly Constructed Histories

This topic came out of a question regarding Drive’s timeline from episodes 27 and 28, but Drive Secret Mission-Type SCU-001 How Was the Special Crimes Unit Assembled?

ALSO has these issues it makes things even more complicated as far as Drive’s timeline goes.

I suppose the thesis here is why do so many shows do the long, complex history and start in the middle or some part way through the story, since so many writers seem to have a hard time doing that properly? Specifically I’m referring to W, OOO, Fourze, Wizard, Faiz, Ryuki and Kiva.

Kamen Rider Double/W

W does OK with starting in the middle of things, but it really leaves so much dissatisfaction after finishing the show. I.E. Why no Kamen Rider Bomb? Why not a lead female cast? Things were mostly left very vague.

Kamen Rider OOO

OOO gives us scraps about the past king and the creation of the Greeed. We get flashes of the alchemists and see how Ankh helped the King destroy them in the past. We even get a fuller explanation of what happened with Maki and his sister, but for some reason that treatment wasn’t really given to Eiji’s past and i don’t feel like the Greeed’s issue was ever established well enough either. Sono isolated it as the Greeed were mad they didn’t have senses. I won’t argue with her on that being the fact, but I don’t see how that really explains their motivation. The crew of the Black Pearl doing their raids to reclaim all the gold and break the curse makes sense because they wanted to reclaim mortality and its benefits, chiefly sensory experience, but you can’t miss what you never had. An alien doesn’t miss Christmas because it has never experienced it before and lacks the cultural context to yearn for it. Had the Greed been made as whole creature and then stripped of an essential element that left them intact but desperately yearning for that missing thing, that would make sense and be more comparable to the human experience, but the show’s handling of that aspect left me wanting.

Kamen Rider Fourze

Fourze doesn’t suffer as much from this as much. I can’t think of any real gaps left by  the fact that the story starts years before the series. The Virgo, Utahoshi, Gamou relationship works well. It just took forever to get to the Horoscope’s plan and I don’t that is the fault of the narrative time gap, though it feels silly that it took Gamou all those years to set up the school etc, but maybe it makes sense that he had to line up all those assets to make the school under the Hole, tailored to be a breeding ground for potential.

Kamen Rider Wizard

Wizard’s six-month gap (like W before it and Drive after it) doesn’t seem to have any reason, other than perhaps to show Haruto as a competent fighter from the start? It’s funny too because they kept flashing back to the days shortly after the Sabbat and doing important character things there for Haruto and Koyomi, but why not do them chronologically and then call back to those things? Nitou and the Beast Driver are another area where there is a lot of fertile ground for exploration of how long Phantoms have been around, how the Driver was developed, how Chimera came to be. There are so many unanswered questions there that could have helped fill up the show’s slower times. Also Section Zero. I would have preferred that maybe Section Zero made their own thing if possible, had hired Nitou, or had held on to the Beast Driver from generations past and secreted itself into the Japanese Government to stop the Phantom threat. So many possibilities.

Kamen Rider Faiz

Faiz has some thing with a school and Takumi has a dark past and I believe those two things are connected. I haven’t finished the show (dropped it at episode ten because I had shows to make and my life is busy) but I’ve gleaned that from snippets of discussion online. There’s some lore about how the Orphenocs are created and I get the feeling it’s held until very late in the series.

Kamen Rider Ryuki

Ryuki, which I also haven’t seen is has the whole genesis to the conflict way in the past. As I understand it it is a White Wizard and Koyomi sort of situation and I just don’t understand the utility of leaving something like that unexplained for so long. Although to be fair I don’t know all the details (or any of them) and execution is important. Eden of the East for example has a mysterious puppet master but isn’t frustrating about how it deals with him.

Kamen Rider Kiva

Kiva has its issues outside of the timeline, which isn’t an issue in my opinion, except for the fact that at some point the 1986 story should have stopped or gone past the paralleling of 2008 and let more of the aftermath of things unfold so that things could be more clear about 2008. The stories would have been less related, but I think it would still have been more satisfying. Kiva leaves a lot unanswered too, like how did Wataru actually get the belt, lineages are a little fuzzy. The thing with the Fake Fuessles on IXA doesn’t make sense unless the Blue Sky Part had access to either Dark Kiva or Kiva. Are the Kivats a species? What’s the deal with these other monster clans? There might be more. honestly Kiva made me so happy that I don’t really care about most of those things, but it’d be nice to have the answers folded into the content of the show and not to be found in extra material.

Future Imperfect- Sailor Moon Crystal 21 -MS 19

This week, Sono and Ammit discuss:

Why’s everything so messed up?!

Where in we forgo our usual structure of breaking down Crystal into two linear blocks of discussion we call the Meat and Veggies and the Frills

21-I

Forgotten Youth

From what we’ve been shown in Crystal, do you see Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion as fairly different people?

Neo-Queen Serenity

Neo-Queen Serenity is characterized by prince Demande as somewhat aloof. Endymion said that she rarely left the Crystal palace, but we see she did centuries before to deal with Phantom. Phantom is called a ruler and Demande is a prince. I’m assuming they are both from the earth, except for the fact that Phantom looked very non-human and they could be dealing with other planets at this time, presumably.

  • I can see Usagi being content staying home with her friends and family, but is that such a bad thing?
  • In a time of relative peace does this monarch goddess really need to be up in everyone’s business?
  • Is Demande lying about her?

Neo-Queen Serenity also seems a bit like an absentee mother, maybe? We do see that she cares for Small Lady, especially when she sees the Legendary Silver Crystal is gone and she gets no response from her daughter, she seems panicked and leaves the palace to find her. All that is good, but it doesn’t seem like Chibi-Usagi is really able to talk to her mom.

King Endymion

Much as Mamoru has, we see in this episode that King Endymion spends time with Chibi-Usa. The scene of them walking together seems like one of many and I don’t think that this is the one time he told her about her mom’s glory days. That’s sweet and nice and we even see him complimenting her for doing what she can to save the 30th century. I just don’t get the sense that there is enough involvement from him and Serenity.

King Endymion has faith in Chibi-Usagi’s awakening and knows she’ll be alright, partially because of the Usagi in her, but why isn’t he telling her to believe in herself?

Did he run out of roses or decide to stop saying believe in yourself? Am I being too hard on these two?

Like Mother, Like Daughter, but Not Quite

Usagi aspires to her own greatness, confident in the words of Queen Serenity as Small Lady aspires to Usagi’s greatness, but that can never be. As similar as they are, they are different people and Small Lady needs to see for herself that she is worthy of the same glory because she has the ability within her to rise to challenges just like her mother did. They will be different, but the key to unlocking her potential will be the same, to believe in herself. The circle formed between these three is well constructed in that it gives each autonomy and distinct identity, but serves to tell Usagi’s story at this time.

Bullying in the 30th Century

What does it say to you that Chibi-Usa is being bullied by these guys in Crystal Tokyo?

What do you think it means that she is being bullied by boys?

Do you like the imperfect utopia?

Am I assuming the world is nearly perfect and it really isn’t?

Why isn’t Chibi-Usa telling her parents?

The Illusion of Power

Prince Demande has the power to control or at least affect Usagi’s body, but even after he has conquered her with a kiss and left her to sulk in her inescapable prison, he cannot defeat her. Usagi’s sadness and introspection are the keys to unlocking the power of her heart. Freed of responsibility and given the time to think, she realigns herself and forms the resolve to keep fighting.

What does this say to you about the true nature of power and strength?

Phantom Pain

The Insane Ruler, Phantom is probably Wiseman, right? I think King Endymion has made that connection. Does this feel like too much of a repeat to you that the daughter is dealing with the repercussions of the mother’s mistake or failing again? Queen Serenity didn’t fully seal Queen Metalia and Usagi had to deal with it centuries later. Now Chibi-Usa is stuck in a terrible situation because Neo-Queen Serenity banished Phantom to Nemesis centuries ago and he bided his time and struck back with Black Moon.

Does this work for you or is it too derivative?

Ammit’s Favorite Line

“Our planet, the Earth, was infected with illusions of “long life” and “infinite power” became slothful… We didn’t like that.“

-Prince Demande

Sono’s Favorite Line

“Abracadabra.”

– Sailor Pluto

Pluto was super cute in this episode. Seeing her get to be silly and funny and seeing that she has mastered these weird little illusions to amuse herself in her infinite time guarding the Door of Time is precious.

A Tale of Two Fathers -Drive 27-28 -RX! 105

Today we’re putting Drive to the test as speedy as we can, as we cover:

27 What Is Shijima Gou’s Reason For Fighting?

And

28 Why Were Families Targeted?

Q1-Is Gou a victim or a villain?

Q2-Does the narrative justify keeping Kiriko in the dark about Dr. Banno? Is she being punished for hiding Chase while he recovered?

Q3-Is the narrative telling us the Dr. Banno is evil, that he was a mad scientist?

If so, why was Steinbelt friends with him? Did he only change his hair to the mad scientist do, when in front of Gou?

Q4-What do you think is the detailed relationship between Kiriko, Gou, Dr. Banno and their mother, Sumiko?

Q5-Do you think the narrative has properly alienated Gou from Shinnosuke and Kiriko and anyone else, to the point that it makes sense for him to go over to the Roimude’s side?

Drive27SD_1317817

Facts-What we know, know about the plot and characters of the show

27|

-While debuting the Ride Boosters, which will enable Tridoron to fly when they attach to it [and would likely serve to carry an individual on them when not attached to Tridoron] Gou and Kiriko have a disagreement over Chase that leads to him pushing her and her slapping him [while Shinnosuke’s actor is not paying enough attention and Rinna’s is]. Kiriko immediately looks remorseful and Gou seems shocked, but Otta runs in with an announcement ending the uncomfortable incident without closure.

-An assumed Red Viral Core Roimude 050, who looks somewhat like a wizard seems to be a spreading Red Viral Cores in a suburban neighborhood. Otta had called the SCU to a meeting where they are to act on Cybernetic crimes expert advisors and help investigate the injury of 37 people at a single housing tract who all became hurt simultaneously earlier that day.

-Kiriko and Shinnosuke get uncomfortable when Brain is brought in under another name by Nira. Brain taunts Shinnosuke in the hallway and uses his father’s memory and talk about 001 to bait Drive into appearing as if he is trying to kill an innocent person, Brain’s alternate identity, Noumi.

-Shinnosuke is suspended and told to stay in the SCU office and not transform. The police also impound Drive, but the SCU plans to work together to help solve the case anyway, so Shinnosuke sneaks out to go with Otta and Rinna to spend time in [another?] neighborhood to see if they find the Roimude. Honganji and Kyu stay behind with a hologram of Shinnosuke, courtesy of Colorful commercial, to trick Nira into thinking Shinnosuke is still there.

-001, or Secretary of Defense Makage [DIDIN’T HE HAVE A DIFFERENT NAME LAST TIME?!?!?!?!] uses his Gamou inspired tricks to mess with the police commissioner’s mind and get him to go away when he starts asking about not being kept up to date on Roimude attacks.

-Gou is helping a lady find her brother. They met when everyone else left to police HQ because she had come to the SCU to get help from them, convinced her brother had been taken by a Roimude. [In going over some of the basic information, Gou talks about how he just wants to see people smiling]

-Kiriko goes to Chase for help and he agrees, but asks for her to repair his Shift Car from when he was Proto-Drive.

-Gou and his client go to the same neighborhood the SCU has honed in on and tells Shinnosuke that he hates Roimude because they are ALL evil and they just ruin people’s lives, which is why he has to destroy them. Giving weight to his point, the evolved Roimude appears and explains that the spell it cast on people, which amplifies their base emotions and causes them to fight, was a test to see if ordinary people, not just violent criminals could be compatible with the Red Viral Cores. No one passed the test, so the Roimude is content to move on.

-Gou fights the Roimude, but it calls in reinforcements and the Ride Boosters and Chase save the day because Shinnosuke doesn’t want to transform and lose his job as a cop. Chase defeats the two, but gets attacked by Mach. Chase dehenshins and in Gou decides to attack him anyway, but stops himself as Shinnosuke rushes in to protect Chase. Gou wonders why Shinnsouke protected him and he basically tells him it’s because he loves him and was stopping him from doing something he’d regret, just like Kiriko would have done.

-A while later, Shinnosuke actually questions Gou on his hatred for Roimudes and Gout tells him that Dr, Banno, was his father and he is running out of time to make amends for all the people who died in the Global Freeze.

-Gou pleads with Shinnosuke to keep hidden from her the truth about Dr. Banno and it seems he and Mr. Belt agree.

-Makage tells Brain he has developed the emotion Envy and that he should use it to increase his power.

-Yoriko Souma is a Roimude using the story of her brother Ryo to ensnare Gou and draw the darkness out of him with the evil red spot thing.

-Shinnosuke has his suspension lifted when Chase agrees to scare Nira in the SCU office.

-Chase stops Gou from giving in to his rage and further attacking the Roimude and Gou almost kills him, becoming especially angry at Chase for asking if family is really that important to him.

-Shinnosuke stops Gou, breaking his transformation, then uses Formula to beat the Roimude… and tells Gou and Chase that Yoriko is really Nishihori Reiko, the daughter of the crazy criminal psychologist whose Roimude (005) Chase destroyed as Proto-Drive and Shinnosuke had arrested. She wanted to get Gou to murder her because he’s Batman and she’s the Joker?

-Shinnosuke tells Gou he is OK now that 050’s mark is gone from him.

-Makage tells Heart and Medic that he is laying the foundation to get Shijima Gou, the ultimate weapon to destroy the Kamen Riders, by giving him a place to belong.

Potential Leads- These are things to keep an eye on, as they may develop into something more interesting or central to the narrative in time

27|

28|

-Brain reference’s Makage’s “grand design” and Makage says they will strick ruthlessly and decisively to counter Belt and Honganji for going public with the Rider’s identity.

Other Notes-Things that stick out, but aren’t really important to the narrative

27|

-Rinna giving Otta the yoga mat to the head and his continuing to try to say Roimude correctly was funny

28|

-The light and wind in Yoriko’s face mad me think: Deadite.

-What’s the Roimude, Witch? Come on, really?

-The cackling throughout the beatdown was really unsettling to me.

-Rinna teasing Gen in the hospital was adorable!

Best Line?

“Family… Humans…”

-Chase

What is that even supposed to mean?
